Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop that not only drew attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mainly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. In the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 songs mainly made in Spanish made it to the top 100. It climbed to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Then, various artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars such as Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019. A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. But a new group, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other forms.
